Social Media is Here to Stay!

Yes, social media is not going away anytime soon and that is good news for your business!

As you can see by the graph below (created by Ben Foster), Facebook users continue to rise by the millions every year–with over 200 MILLION this year alone!

Some more outstanding social media user numbers:

There are an average of 460,000 new accounts added per day on Twitter

15 million people joined LinkedIn in the third quarter of 2011 according to LinkedIn CEO Jeff Weiner during an earnings call.

In just 4 months, Google+ has reached over 40 million users.

Good News: People are increasingly using social media.

Social Media POWER 

As we all know and have experienced, social media is a powerful way of re-connecting with long lost family and friends, as well as keeping in touch with loved ones that are not near us.

But, as many people are discovering everyday, social media is also a powerful tool for promoting your business and for connecting with current or potential customers/clients. 

According to information that was given at the FB Developer Conference more than half of Facebook users log in every day – (that’s more than 400 million people!). The average user has 130 friends and is connected to 80 pages, events and groups.

21% of Facebook fans are likely to recommend a page to their friends.

47% of Twitter users earn $50k or more per year; 24% earn more than $75k. Compare that to 33% and 18% among the general population, respectively.  One third of Twitter followers said they were more apt to make a recommendation once they followed a brand.

Good News: People are active on social media AND they are interested in businesses while they are on social media.

Are People Buying from Those They Follow on Social Media? 

Here are some statistics according to an infographic created by Crowdspring:

50% of small business owners reported gaining new customers through social media – most notably through Facebook and LinkedIn.

51% of Facebook users and 64% of Twitter users are more likely to buy from the brands they follow than brands they don’t.

Good News: People prefer to buy from brands that they follow on Social Media

Every business owner that I know, that is consistently active on social media, has received business from social media and many have received invitations for speaking engagements and interviews. So, I encourage you to look deeper into social media for your marketing strategy.

To many business owners social media appears overwhelming at first. And, I agree, it can be if you are new or don’t understand how to use social media in a way that will build up the reputation of your business and attract customers/clients. That is ok. With everything we do, we need to learn how to use it first to be most successful.

Fortunately, there are amazing blogs, books and coaches that can guide you through the process. But, this can take hours upon hours of research and a coach like myself or my employees of Chatter Management can cost you $125 to $225 an hour. If you don’t have the time or money to invest, these may not be options for you.

There are also affordable, yet informative and inspiring conferences, seminars and classes where you can learn about a variety of social networks and current strategies that have been proven to work by business owners. Here are two that I will be attending that you may want to attend as well:
