I am in love with the change of the seasons, especially the transition from winter to spring.
Being a person who does not practically enjoy the coldness of winter, I truly welcome the hints of warmth that spring delivers with wide open arms.
My washing machine has been in high gear washing all of our shorts, summer dresses, tank tops and others lighter clothing and blankets. My girls and I went shopping for new sandals and flip flops and our toes are again enjoying the sun.
While I enjoy the season change with the flowers blooming and the smell of the fresh spring air, I also delight in taking part in my personal renewal process along with the Earth.
Our bodies, our emotions, and our energy field, feel the effects of the seasonal shift of the Earth and if we are to work along with the renewing of spring in our personal lives we reap amazing benefits.
Here are some of my favorite renewing activities that I enjoy:
1. Declutter my Home
I use to love holding onto “things”. I had collections of cats, dolls, teapots, ect. Each item had a connection to someone or some event. Whenever I entered my home, I was reminded of the past and went into reflection mode. For hours, I would write and draw on my emotions of what was, which was often painful and depressing. However, several years ago, I began to feel weighed down and realized that I was robbing myself of the enjoyment of the possibilities of today. Now, the only items in my home are those that bring me smiles and inspiration for love, peace and success. While I regularly remove items from my home that no longer serve a purpose, every spring, I deeply question my reasons for holding onto whatever “things” that I have–whether they are decorations, clothes, jewelry, books, and furniture. Then, I let go of those things that are not resonating with who I am now and who I am looking to evolve into.
2. Detoxify my body
I love to deeply clean out my body by flushing out my system every spring. In early spring, I go through an intense week detox incorporating an all fruit and veggie diet, with special detox tea blend, as well 6 weekly ionic detox foot baths and body scrubs and three times daily Reiki sessions. What an amazing freeing feeling my body feels afterwards.
(I only offer new clients ionic detox foot baths and Reiki sessions during the spring season, so if you are interested in getting started with the intro package make sure you give me a call at 267-266-6480 before April 30th.)
3. Mental Detox
During my weekly body detox, I purge my mind. This is when I take 3 entire without any influence at all in my mind. I have no clients, no music, no interaction with people, no internet, no movies, and no shopping. I go out into nature alone everyday and keep completely to myself. During this time, I always have a notebook or laptop around to write. What a liberating experience.
4. Clean up my yard
Years ago, I began gardening. So, this is the time when I prepare my yard by cleaning out the winter debris, weeds and stones.
5. Enjoy the clearing
After cleaning, purging, clearing, detoxifying there is a stage of enjoying the nakedness of being without. There is a very freeing feeling where everything is more pure, even purer than the previous year. Enjoying this time or being without the old and just being with what is is refreshing. This being here encourages more cleansing because I enjoy it so much that I desire to be more free.
6. Dig Deeper within discover of me
After lifting away clutter of all sorts and enjoying the clearing, there is a natural progression of revealing pieces of myself that I wish to explore and to connect with. This connection happens with the body, emotions, mind and energy. There are new sensations that occur within the body, new emotions that blossom, new creative thoughts that arise, and an energy that is unlike anything I ever experienced before. It is amazing how much more we are than we ever even realized. Letting go and being truly allows this amazing to blossom.
7. Learn new recipes
I love the freshness of veggies, fruits, and herbs that comes with spring. This is the perfect time of year to learn new ways to feed the body these vibrant, healing foods. Here are some awesome cookbooks with healthy seasonal cooking that I enjoy:
Cooking in the Moment: A Year of Seasonal Recipes
Cooking from the Farmers’ Market (Williams-Sonoma)
8. Spend more time outside
I tend to be a hermit crab in the winter as I do not enjoy the cold unless I am ice climbing on a frozen waterfall or on the White Mountains in New Hampshire. So, as soon as the weather becomes warm, I bring out my roller blades, clean up the bikes, dust off my tennis racquets, and plan road trips to explore hiking trails with myself, my daughters and friends.
8. Go Shopping
I love the colors of spring fashions and the freeing styles. I get excited to get new sandals, flip flops, and sun dresses. I like to go shopping after I do all of the above steps first because the person that become revealed has a new, fun style.
9. Make the commitment to learn something new
When discovering the new parts of myself, I also like to discover something about life that I never did before. I like to commit to learning more about something that nature offers like understanding on a deeper level the process and science of germination or discovering the rituals of the Aborigines. These learnings add so much more appreciation to the process of life. (Here is a fascinating book that I read about the Aborigines – The Original Australians: Story of the Aboriginal People
10. Take deeper breaths to bring in the freshness of the Earth
Breathing is essential to life, as well as know. But all so often our breathing is taken for granted. Springtime with all the freshness of new life blooming in our backyards, in the farms, and throughout our local areas is the perfect time to appreciate the power of our breath. Breathing takes you to the very core of who you are. How deep and full your breaths are are clear signs to how your relationship is with yourself. Use this time to be one with yourself and the Earth allowing the Earth to renew your cells with each breath that you deeply take and exhale this spring.

Ah…I could sense that spring is in the air through your post Joanne!
Loved the list and the way you are going ahead to renew your mind and body this spring! Couldn’t agree more, and the best thing being that it’s almost like a new beginning of things, and gives a new meaning to life.
Guess your kids would love to help around and that would make the work all the more enjoyable- isn’t it?

Spring is honestly one of my favorite seasons – filled with hope, growth and life.
I’m in the middle of a great big cleaning binge myself (both mental and in my house). So far the results are quite promising.
Spring cleaning is a wonderful state of mind to be in. To all things, new beginnings.
